WHAT IS SORBA-FREEZE

Sorba-freeze is an innovative product.

It is a sealed pad comprising (Low Density Polyethylene) plastic laminate on one side for non-stick purposes, LDPE coated, non-woven polyester fabric on the other for the free passage of fluids, formed as an envelope containing an acrylate polymer powder capable of absorbing liquid to an extent many times its own weight.

All of the components are E.E.C. food standard inert products and Sorba-freeze pads have been fully tested for both food safety and performance, showing high standards at all times.

Accreditation

Sorba-freeze pads have been independently scientifically tested for food safety, absorbency and temperature control capability.

They are approved as suitable for direct food contact and comply with EEC 90/128 and FDS 29 CFR 1910.1200.

Construction

Each pad comprises 1 side plastic laminate (for easy separation when frozen), 1 side LDPE coated dry to touch non-woven fabric (for easy passage of fluids) and contains a measured quantity (depending on requirement) of super absorbent acrylate polymer powder.

Super absorbent powder is encapsulated in pads constructed of plastic laminate and non woven fabric - all of E.E.C. food hygiene standards.

These pads are capable of a very high absorption of fluids, including blood and saline solutions, out of a wide cross section of food products from meat, poultry and live shellfish to processed products such as cheese, etc.

When soaked in fresh water they can be frozen as gel packs with the capability of retaining low temperature for long periods of time.

Not only has this revolutionised food presentation, transportation and mail order, but its uses have spread to all manner of tasks where other much less controllable and successful methods of temperature control or fluid absorption have previously been used.

Temperature Control

Torry research station conducted tests on our Sorba-freeze refrigerant with equal amounts of flake ice and gel packs. Sorba-freeze maintained a low temperature for twice the length of time compared to gel packs because of its ability to achieve "near total coverage of the product". It also significantly out performed ice at temperatures above 2°C as its temperature change was much more controlled.

The products should ideally be packed as close to 0°C as is practical, in insulated packaging. In a recent controlled test seafood packed at 0°C in insulated packaging and wrapped in Sorba-freeze, maintained a temperature below 5°C for over 30 hours when sent under normal postal conditions during Summer of 1995.

Lightweight

Sorba-freeze has the additional benefit of being lightweight and taking up less room. It will save space and weight costs whilst maintaining a lower pack temperature during normal transit.

When used in conjunction with ice, Sorba-Freeze pads reduce ice requirements by up to 60%, saving weight, increasing capacity and reducing shipping costs.

When soaked and frozen Sorba-Freeze pads control temperature better than ice or gel packs.

Super-Absorbent Pads

The EEC confirmed sealed pad is comprised of a plastic laminate on one side for non-stick purposes, a LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) non-woven polyester fabric on the other for efficient passage of fluids and encompassing an acrylate polymer powder capable of absorbing liquid many times its own weight and volume.

All components are EEC food standard inert products and Sorba-Freeze pads have been fully tested for food safety and performance, always showing high standards and winning acclaim.

Sorba-freeze pad production options

Sorba freeze pads can be produced in a range of sizes and configurations to suit your specific needs. The most popular requirement is for continuous lengths perforated across, but we are able to perforate or slit along the length if required.
